Football - Sir Tom hosts special day at Town

FOOTBALLING legend Sir Tom Finney is set to give Kendal Town a huge boost ahead of their clash with Ilkeston on Saturday.

The former Preston North End and England great is sponsoring tomorrow’s game in his role as Club President and has invited distinguished guests from across the North West to join him at Parkside.

Among those set to attend is Mayor of Kendal Clare Feeney- ohnson, Liberal Democrat MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale Tim Farron, former Preston North End players and distinguished businessmen from Kendal and Preston.

With Town boss Lee Ashcroft a former Preston North End player, tomorrow’s President's Day builds further links between the two clubs. Kendal have also confirmed that fans will get that chance to win Tom Finney memorabilia at the match during the half-time raffle.

Described by former Liverpool boss Bill Shankly as “ The greatest player I ever saw, bar none.” Sir Tom Finney was capped 76 times for his country, and was recently honoured by the likes of Match of the Day pundit Mark Lawrenson and former England players Trevor Brooking and Gordon Banks at a glittering gala evening at The Guild Hall in Preston.

Kendal Town Press Officer Graham O'Callaghan said of the day: " We are extremely proud at Kendal Town FC to have such a distiguished Club President. Sir Tom Finney is a legend in the game and with him at the helm it can only encourage more people to get involved with our club, whether that be more supporters in the ground or people that may wish to get involved financially.

"We have a great link with Preston North End already as our manager Lee Ashcroft also played many times for them and days like this will only strengthen the bond between the two clubs".

*WITH just three home games of the Unibond season remaining Kendal Town have announced they are giving fans the chance to see all three matches for just £15 in a bid to attract as many fans as possible for Kendal’s promotion push.

The club have confirmed that anyone who pays £15 for a ticket at Saturday's game will get a ticket that entitles them admission to the two remaining games after that which are: Ashton United on Friday, April 10 and Buxton on Saturday, April 25.
