CLASSY Caldy visit to Kendal’s Mint Bridge tomorrow (Saturday) as the top two clubs in National League 3 North come to town over the next two weekends, with current leaders Nuneaton due at Easter, writes Richard Daniels.
They will face a Black and Ambers side, who after losing 33-5 at Loughborough Students, are attempting to sidestep a fifth successive defeat as their form has tapered off dramatically.
It is a big ask, but the club have a long tradition of reserving their best for elevated opposition, especially on home territory.
Hooker Duncan Green is out again with a shoulder injury, although not a serious as the one that forced a lengthy lay-off earlier this season.
Allen Martindale resumes in his place, while fellow forwards Mark Wilson and Liam Hayton are back in the starting line-up.
Kendal coach Jon Nicholson called for the team to be more robust physically and mentally in their approach.
He said: “Loughborough side contained some very talented individuals who gave us a lesson in support play and handling.
“With the grounds drying out dominant teams are starting to accumulate big scores and for us to be the dominant team this week we must be more vocal and aggressive in defence and ruthless in attack.
“Pressure for results is starting to build, but taking on the team who have led the league for the majority of the season only focuses the mind on the job in hand.”
TEAM: (v Caldy, 3pm): Park, Butler, Voortman (capt), Gracie, Boyd, Aloe, Gough, Coxon, Martindale, Harryman, Hayton, Gore, M. Wilson, Holmes, C. Wilson. Bench: Ross, Tomlinson, Howse, Ashley, Walker.
