CUMBRIAN World Rally Championship driver Matthew Wilson rolled the Ford Focus RS and out of the Rally de Portugal.
Wilson was chasing his second top-five finish in a row when the Stobart VK M-Sport Ford entry slid off the road and rolled.
The Cockermouth-based Wilson and co-driver Scott Martin managed to get the car back on the road but burnet out the clutch, ending their rally.
Wilson said: “Our times and consistency have improved in the last two rallies, so for this to happen is a big setback to my confidence.”The accident elevated Stobart team-mate Henning Solberg to fifth place overall, but dealt a blow to the squad’s hopes of closing the gap on teams above them,
