Ashey's Angle: Squad's belief is strong

WE’VE got a “Cup Final” ahead of us at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday, says Kendal Town boss Lee Ashcroft.

The lads have shown the spirit and belief needed to do the job with two superb results over the Easter period - and getting a play-off place is in our own hands, it’s as simple as that.

Marine was a difficult place to go last Monday.

They have a caretaker manager at present and their players were trying a bit harder to impress.

We were always in control without getting a goal in the first half, but I changed things around at half time and went 4-3-3 and caused mayhem in the second half and we should have won by more.

In the end Craig Hobson’s goal was enough to get us the three points and the result was the most important thing on the day.

The momentum is with us. We’re on top form - with only one defeat in our last 12 matches - and that showed by the manner in which we pulled apart Ashton United in front of our home fans on Saturday.

Michael Cole’s fantastic opening goal is up there as one of the goals of the season - he hit it sweetly and it flew in.

But those games are in the past and it is up to us to secure all six points from the remaining two games, starting with our close play-off rivals Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.

We return home to face Buxton on Saturday week and that will be another massive game and we will want a big crowd there to get behind us.

We’re well placed and if we get to the play-offs, then I’d back us to go all the way and win promotion.

Whatever happens, we’ve had a season with lots of highs and what we have achieved already is remarkable for a club of our means.
