Ashy's Angle

Tomorrow’s match is a game of football Town simply have to win says Kendal boss Lee Ashcroft.

“ Last Saturday’s match in Bradford was unbelievable, nine times out of ten you’d say a draw there was a good result, but with conceding so late and under the circumstances it felt more like a defeat than a point gained.

Leigh did us a huge favour midweek. I didn’t expect any of the top six to drop points in their games but Bradford getting beat 2-1 has given us a chance to get back in the playoffs and I still believe we’ll do it.

All we need is for FC United and Bradford to draw, we’re level on points with them both so if they only pick up a point apiece it’ll be us in the play offs.

That is, if we can win our game of course. They’ll be nerves before the Buxton game tomorrow, but they’ll be more in the stands than out on the pitch. I’ve spoken to the lads and their all in a great frame of mind and know what we have to do.

I’ll be making sure we settle into our game, make a good start and stay focused because we can’t afford anything but a win. A big home crowd can make all the difference with games like these so it’d be brilliant to see the people of Kendal come out in their hundreds to support their local side in such a big game.

Ossy (Carl Osman) has had a very frustrating couple of months. He’s absolutely chomping at the bit to play but has struggled with his hamstring. He made a big impact on Saturday though and I’m really hoping I can use him tomorrow. David Standley and Paul Byrne have also go injuries but we’ve got our fingers crossed they’ll be ok come kick off.

We’ve surprised a huge amount of people this year. We had odds of 66-1 to win the Unibond Premier League at the start of the season and just look where we are now.

It’s a huge ambition of mine to take this club up and if I can keep this group of players together we’ll do it next year if not this season. They’re a great set of lads who’ve got great potential and I know with small improvements they could compete at a higher level, and win lose or draw tomorrow I’ve very proud of them".
