SPINNER Ben Simm turned into a very able opening batsman for Kendal to steer them to an eight-wicket win at Fleetwood in the Furness BS Northern Premier Cricket League on Saturday.
Kendal reduced Fleetwood to 119-8 off a rain-affected 31 overs with Adam Sharrocks (37) and Wayne Clarke (27) scoring the bulk of the runs.
Simm walked out with Ikram Ullah to open the Kendal innings and outshone his skipper with an unbeaten 42. Knocks from Ullah (23) and Terry Hunte (36) helped Kendal to clinch victory at 123-2 off 27.3 overs.
Netherfield's home match with Carnforth was hit by torrential rain moving across the area. After a delayed start, Carnforth made 151-5 off a reduced 28 overs with Darren Moore (62) and Ryan Nelson (48) doing the hard graft.
Marc Hadwin (3-31) and Chris Miller (2-62) were the wicket-takers.
Netherfield were never in the hunt for the runs and batted out the draw at 60-7 after Warren Quinn (4-30) had dispatched the top three in the order cheaply.
