Running - Open Day at Brathay Hall

IT'S Open Day at Brathay Hall Trust's HQ on Sunday, the hub of the Brathay Windermere Marathon and the Ten Marathons in Ten Days Challenge.

The Brathay Hall Estate will be open to marathon spectators, the local community and visitors to the area.

The Open Day will start at 10.30am with a line-up of entertainment, activities and refreshments for all the family to enjoy until the close at 5pm.

Live entertainment and The Lakes Jazzmen jazz band will be making appearances throughout the day in addition to various children’s activities and games to keep everyone entertained.

For those who might be a little more adventurous there is a climbing wall, canoeing, a challenging ropes course and even a zip wire.

Refreshments to cater for every taste will also be available throughout the day including a local brewery beer tent and the Brathay BBQ.

The Ten Marathons in Ten Days Challenge runners will be setting off on their tenth and final marathon circuit, joined by over 1,000 runners who will be competing in the Brathay Windermere Marathon.

The 15 athletes from across the UK in the Ten in Ten, began their epic marathon journey back on Friday, May 8.

They are running to raise thousands of pounds for Brathay Hall Trust, a national educational charity founded over 60 years ago to support disadvantaged young people.

The Ten in Ten runners will start their final marathon at 9.30am on Sunday, followed by the Brathay Marathon runners an hour later at 10.30am.

The first runner is expected to cross the finish line on the front lawn of Brathay Hall at approximately 1.10pm.

Scott Umpleby, Head of Fundraising at Brathay Hall Trust and event organiser, said: “The event has been running for two years now and each year more and more athletes take part.

Every runner taking part can be proud of their achievements. Through shear determination, endurance and passion, each runner achieves a remarkable feat in addition to raising thousands of pounds for Brathay Hall Trust.”
