OXENHOLME'S Lynn Hamel (Team NCA) finished second in the National Women's Ten Miles Time Trial Championship near London on Sunday.
The reigning National Best All-Rounder champion clocked a sizzling 22 mins 29 secs in her bid to take the title from Julia Shaw, but the Utag Yamaha rider proved stronger on the day and completed a hat-trick of titles at the distance with a 21-49 performance.
Closer to home, yet another rising wind thwarted hopes of fast times in the second 50 in a fortnight on the A66 course north of Keswick.
Fastest of the local riders was Windermere's Carlo Berton, riding for promoting club Border City Wheelers, who clocked 1hr 55mins 11secs in third place. Kent Valley's Andrew Barlow and Tim Bennett did 2-02-26 and 2-07-14 while Richard Belk rode 2-19-53.
Kent Valley's lastest midweek club event was a 25-mile time trial on the Levens course, which was won by Tim Bennett in 59-21 from Ben Lawson on 59-49. Tony Dixon did 1-04-52 while Tom Gibson rode a promising 1-07-15 in his first attempt at the distance. Junior Sam Huddleston did 1-07-49 and Fred Pickstone 1-1012. Ann Nicholson was the fastest woman with 1-10-59.
Tomorrow (Saturday) sees Kent Valley promote a 90-minute lanequest as part of the Cyclefest Abbot in Abbot Hall Park, Kendal. The festival starts at 11am and the lanequest from 2pm. On Sunday there will be a 65-mile reliability ride from New Road, Kendal, as part of the festival, which runs all through next week.
