Orienteering - Lakes round up


Lakeland OC ’s Charlotte Somers-Cocks and Jackie Chapman were winners of the W45 and W50 classes over the two days of competition in the Twin Peak orienteering event staged on Place Fell and Angle Tarn Crags.

Warrior’s Andy Hyslop was the winner of the M50 event while local senior Women’s competitors Judy Burge and Gill Browne put in fine performances to finish third and firth in the W50 respectively.

In the W55 Diana McClure took forth place while Janet Nash finished sixth and Shelia Hobson ended in a respectable eleventh place. Helen Nield was fifth in W60 and Doreen Fishwick completed the W60 Short courses.

The senior men’s classes threw up the usual suspects with Chris Heppenstall securing sixth place in the M21. Nick Howlett took an impressive third in the M40 with Jonathan Lagoe finishing third in the M50.

The oldest competitor over the weekend was Kendal’s Maurice Collett of South Ribble OC in the M85 class, who successfully completed 3km courses each day.

Lakeland girl’s Lois Jefferson and Kirsten Bell did themselves proud over the two days of competition finishing second and fifth in W12 respectively with Meghan Hallett third in the W14.

Adam Bartlett was the most successful Lakeland boy, winning the M12 with Jack Rotherham taking fourth place. In M14 Angus Dobson was sixth, Malachy Buck ninth, William Rigg tenth. In the M16 Mox O’Hara came sixth while in the M18 Thomas Lawson also took third.

Anyone interested in trying orienteering can go to a event for novices at Great Tower Scout Camp tomorrow, Saturday 6th June. Anyone interested can go either in the morning between 10am and noon or in the afternoon between 2pm and 4pm.
