Hillclimb - Barbon stages Northern sprint and speed day

BARBON Speed Hillclimb today (Saturday) will attract entries from all over the country to Barbon Manor in Barbon, three miles from Kirkby Lonsdale.

The competition features rounds of the Longton and District Motor Club Northern Sprint and Hillclimb Championship and the Wigton Motor Club T J Services Northern Speed Championship.

Competitors will be driving against the clock up the 890 yard course consisting of 3 corners, the top class of cars are capable of reaching speeds of 130MPH along the straight Cars range from Minis through to saloon cars including TVRs and Porsches.

A whole raft of Caterham and Westfield kit cars and single-seat racing cars will be in action and the programme includes a Formula Ford class and a class for pre-war Austin sevens along with other historic cars.

Practice starts from 9.30am with competitive runs starting around lunchtime Admission for adults is £8 with free parking, but spectators should not attend with their pet dogs.

Directions will be signposted from junction 36 of the M6.

2010 will be the centenary year for Westmorland Motor Club and we would be pleased to receive or borrow any photographic or other memorabilia from Barbon that could be of interest.
