Superbikes - Wild-card chance to prove point at Donington

By Ryan Bangs KENDAL’S James Ellison admitted runner-up was no longer good enough after once again playing second fiddle to his Airwaves Yamaha team-mate Leon Camier in the ViSK British Superbikes Championship.

Camier was at his outstanding best to seal another double and extend his lead at the top to 55 points over Ellison, who was forced to settle for fourth and second at Snetterton.

Ellison, 28, should have been celebrating his second win of the season in race one, but somehow slipped from first to fourth as Camier came from eighth to win before dominating race two at the Norfolk circuit.

And while Ellison was once more gracious in defeat he conceded the time had come to stop Camier in his tracks.

“We had a nightmare in the first race and then I had to put my iPod on and try and compose myself after the mistakes in race one,” said Ellison, who will return to BSB action at Knockhill on July 5.

“It was down to me to clear my head and get a plan together.

“Fortunately we managed to pull it off although I am the bridesmaid once again. Leon is riding the crest of a wave and it is my job to bring it down.

“Certainly I need to put more pressure on him during the races. Congratulations to him but I am looking forward to Knockhill to get on top of the podium.

“Obviously I would like to be on the top step and beating Leon but it is a team sport so to have an Airwaves Yamaha 1-2 is fantastic.”

Ellison will get an immediate opportunity to get the better of Camier next weekend after the pair were handed wild cards for the British leg of the World Superbikes at Donington Park next weekend.

And the Kendal flyer admitted he can’t wait to test himself against the best superbike riders in the world – especially with his most recent visit to Donington ending with BSB glory in May.

He added: “I have always loved racing at Donington Park and after scoring my first ever BSB victory there a couple of weeks ago makes it even more special.

“It’s a real honour for me to compete there and to be given the opportunity to race is great.”

“I know the team is very proud of winning trophies there so it would be great to come back with a few more.
