TWO women water polo players from the South Lakes area were in the triumphant European Nations Trophy team and had a visit from Prince William to make it a doubly memorable week.
Alex Rutlidge, from Burton-in-Kendal, and Chloe Wilcox, of Shap, were among squad the Great Britain women's squad members presented to the Prince, whose appearance at the tournament in Manchester attracted coverage from the national media.
Both women were celebrating later after helping the Great Britain team lift the trophy in a stirring 9-7 victory over the Czech Republic in the final.
Alex, who is 20 and a former pupil of Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale is in her second year at Manchester University studying criminology and social policy.
Chloe, 24, is a PE teacher at Manchester High School.
Both women play National League water polo with the City of Manchester team and are hoping to achieve their ambition of playing at the 2012 Olympics in London.
