AIRWAVES Yamaha rider James Ellison was gifted his second Superbike win of the season in controversial circumstances at Mallory Park.
Race one was red flagged on the 23rd lap when Aussie Josh Brookes crashed at the Hairpin, taking out race leader Simon Andrews, who had just taken the lead from Chris Walker just a few laps earlier.
The incident on track then collected Walker, Tommy Hill, Karl Harris and John Laverty, leading to the race coming to a premature conclusion.
Ellison was expecting Andrews to be given the race win and subsequent 25 points – but it was the 28-year-old from Kendal, who was sitting in sixth at the time, who was deemed the winner as the five riders ahead of him were all off their bikes at the time of the red flag.
