RICHARD Flint, Cumbria’s only representative in England’s various hockey teams, played in a victorious side against Scotland, Wales and Ireland in a Four-Nations Tournament at Largs.

The England Under-16 men’s team beat Wales 6-0 in their opening match. After that morale-booster, they followed up with a much tougher 3-1 victory against Ireland. Scotland also provided stiff opposition before England again emerged 3-1 winners.

Flint, who attends Windermere St Anne’s School and who is awaiting his GCSE results, played well in midfield.

His final match for the England Under-16s will be a friendly against an Asian representative side in Birmingham in early August, after which he will be working hard to be selected for England’s Under-18s.

It was a clean sweep for England’s Under-16 women’s team at the tournament, which beat the other three nations.
