Football - Newnes' heroics help earn point at Boston

KENDAL Town goalkeeper David Newnes was the man of the match for the visitors as they came away with a creditable point from a scoreless draw at Boston United on Saturday.

Newnes made a string of top-drawer saves to deny Boston in an open, attacking game which featured a lot of end-to-end action.

Dave Foster had two or three good opportunities to put Town ahead in the opening exchanges without hitting the target.

Town defended superbly, if frantically at times, including goal-line clearances, to deny the home team before half time.

Early in the second half, Town's Warren Beattie went close when he glanced Keiran Walmsley's cross on to the post early in the second half.

But it was Newnes' saves that kept Kendal on level terms as he made outstanidng stops from Newsham, Cullingworth and Davidson.

However, a one-handed stop to foil Clarke was probably the pick of the bunch.

Kendal had a chance to snatch the spoils when Alex Taylor pushed the ball wide of an unguarded net after getting himself in the clear.

Unbeaten Town have taken seven points from three games and now face Bradford Park Avenue at Parkside on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
