Kendal Town 2, Colwyn Bay 1.
In a match not helped by a high wind swirling down the pitch there was no score at half time and little in the way of goalmouth incident.
It was not until the 71st minute that the game came alive when Hesketh removed left-winger James Sheppard and midfielder Russ McKenna in favour of the extra pace and fire-power of David Foster and Peter Smith.
Three minutes later Town took the lead Smith feeding Stuart Cliff down the right flank and Cliff delivering a peach of a cross to the far post for Chris Bennett to bundle the ball in.
In the 82nd minute, Town's otherwise solid defence made its only serious lapse.
A wind-assisted free-kick from the halfway line dropped to unmarked Duncan Horler who slammed it just inside the right hand.
Colwyn's joy was short-lived for in the 86th minute Smith managed to beat the offside trap.
He raced down the left then slipped a perfect square ball to Foster who kept his cool and slipping the ball past the advancing keeper to extend Town's winning run of four wins and a draw.
If Town can beat Chorley on Tuesday (kick-off 7.46pm at Parkside) they will have the satisfaction of moving off the foot of the UniBond League First Division.
