MARINE Football Club have called for divine intervention ahead of Kendal Town’s visit to The Arriva Stadium on Tuesday.
A dismal spell has surrounded the stadium this season, as Marine have lost five home games, suffered floodlight failure, lost in the FA Trophy to Kings Lynn, who went bust weeks later, and had three players sidelined with broken legs.
The poor fortune led manager Kevin Lynch to seek help from above.
He has acted to call in Father Ealey from the local St Aloysius Church in Roby, to bless the pitch to drive off the evil spirits, which he believes have contributed to the number of times Marine have hit the woodwork this season.
Fr Ealey blessed the pitch by reading a short prayer before sprinkling holy water in the goalmouths and across the rest of the playing surface.
