Table Tennis: Burton C extend lead at top of Kendal league

Kendal and District Table Tennis League.

Division two leaders Burton C sent second placed Dallam A crashing to a 7-3 loss, their first defeat of the season - in a top of the table clash.

Dallam were on high spirits having won 13 matches on the spin but Burton forged an early 4-0 advantage, with Stephen Baxendale on top form.

Baxendale claimed 11-1, 7-11, 11-8 and 9-11, and 9-11, 11-8. 11-7, 10-12, 11-8 victories over Jonathan Hyman and Craig James respectively.

Chris Jones and Graeme Wheelhouse also contributed, with wins agains James and Phil Hyman.

Despite four set victories for Jonathan Hyman, Burton roared to a 7-3 victory with Baxendale completing a hat trick of wins.

Burton now have a five point lead over Dallam while the Milnthorpe side have a crucial game in hand.

Burton D lie fifth after a 7-3 win against relegation-threatened Natland D.

Barry Rhodes remained unbeaten and team mate Chris Jones beat Dave Ratcliffe and Rob Clarke.

Shelley Rhodes also beat Clarke 11-3 in a dramatic final set.

Natland’s points came courtesy of Peter Taylor’s 11-9, 11-4, 16-14 and 7-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 sucesses against Shelley Rhodes and Jones respectively.

Kirkby Stephen C look in imminent danger of relegation after a 7-3 defeat by Dallam B.

Laurence Stannard netted three victories while Joseph Alaimo earned victories against Mike Sunderland and Tom Walton.

In division one, Crook A hammered their closest rivals Crook B 9-1 as Mike Taylor’s excellent form continued.

Along with Dave Smith, Taylor bagged three wins while skipper Phil Swift added two points with victories over Brian Tigg and Tony Cousins.

Crook B now lie 22 points from safety at the bottom of the league.

Natland C are also teetering on the brink of relegation but a narrow 6-4 win over Kirkby Stephen A gives them hope.

Andrew Hudson snatched the man of the match award with three triumphs while Mick Taylor and Louisa Bevan added a point apiece.
