BBC’s Kate Silverton will join Phil Packer in taking on the three peaks challenge for Sport Relief.

The duo embarked on the trek on Friday to the summit of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon, and aim to complete the challenge in just 72 hours.

Packer suffered sever spinal injuries in 2008 and has raised money through exceptional physical challenges since - including rowing the English Channel and walking the London Marathon over 14 days.

Speaking of the challenge, Silverton said: “The Three Peaks Challenge is recognised as a serious test of mental and physical stamina and it’s typical of Phil to choose something that will test him so completely.

“This is the perfect Sport Relief challenge for us and I will be very proud to walk with Phil every step of the way.”

Silverton and Packer will be joined by Olympics legend Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Clive Woodward for the walk across Snowdon.

* Look out for Phil Packer and Kate Silverton on Saturday, when they are expected at Scafell Pike.
