UNIBOND Challenge Cup, semi-final - Retford United 1, Kendal Town 0: A 64th-minute goal from Retford striker Neil Harvey dashed Kendal Town's hopes of reaching the UniBond Challenge Cup final on Saturday.

Kendal had an abudance of promising attacks in their bid to get on the scoresheet in a very open attacking game, but drew a disappointing blank.

In a dominating first-half display, Kendal had a strong penalty shout turned down after 22 minutes when the Retford keeper James Lindley seemed to have brought down striker Alex Taylor with the ball at his feet, but the appeal was waved aside.

A couple of minutes later, Carl Osman crossed for Peter Wright to collect and turn annd shot, and although the efforts was blocked, it fell to Taylor whose follow-up effort was parried by keeper Lindley.

After 32 minutes Gary Stopforth headed out of defensive, Taylor collected in midfield and turned inside to plauy a through ball for Wright who fired narrowly over from the edge of the box.

Kendal could not get the goal they sought for all their attacking play as the tie moved into the second half.

Instead, acting manager Ian Kilford's men were caught napping when George Melling's clearance was recovered by the home side and worked to Chris Bettney on the right wing, who cut inside Paul Byrne and crossed for Harvey to nod in the header at the far post.
