Badminton - Defending champions power home


DALTON felt the full force of reigning Division 1 champions Ambleside in the Westmorland Badminton League as they lost 16-2, but they fared better to Kirkby Stephen, only beaten 10-8.

Division 2 leaders were held to a 9-9 draw by Kendal A, while Heversham won 11-7 at Ambleside to keep the pressure on at the top.

Burneside got off the bottom with a draw at Strickland A and Branthwaite B received penalty points for a rule infringement. Both sides now seem destined for Division 3.

St Lukes beat Strickland B 18-0 to increase their lead at the top to 36 points.

Natland cemented second spot in Division 4 with big wins of 13-5 and 17-1 against Bowness C and Kendal B respectively.

Results: Div 1: Arnside 16, Dalton 2; Kirkby Stephen 10, Dalton 8. Div 2: Kendal A 9, Strickland 9; Ambleside 7, Heversham 11; Burneside 9, Strickland A 9; Branthwaite B 7, Kendal A 11. Div 3: Strickland B 0, St Lukes 18. Div 4:Heversham A 9, Bowness C 9; Sedbergh 15, Grange A 3; Kendal C 1, Natland 17; Grange A 14, Heversham A 4; Grange A 8, Bowness C 10; Bowness C 3, Natland 15.
