Rugby - Points machine Ireland in injury blow

5:10pm Thursday 18th March 2010

KENDAL full back Mark Ireland is likely to be out for several weeks with a broken hand.

Ireland came off midway through the second half in the 61-6 defeat at Caldy and Dr Stephen Green recommended an X-ray which revealed the fracture.

Ireland's injury is a major blow to Kendal's run-in as the prolific goalkicker is the club's leading goalscorer and has contributed 197 points this season - all but five from his lethal boot.

Ireland's absence means Kendal are forced to make changes when they entertain local rivals Fylde on Saturday (3pm kick-off) in what usually is a fiesty enconter.

Chris Park reverts to full back and John Ladell - back from a month in New Zealand - goers on to the left wing.

Mike Scott was due to rest a back injury at Caldy but was pressed into action when centre Matt Gracie could not travel because of work commitments, while Craig Wilson also missed the trip because of illness.

Hooker Duncan Green is in the starting line-up after a lengthy absence due to an elbow injury.

TEAM: Park, Postlethwaite, Vootman, Aloe. Ladell, Scott, Gough, Coxon, Green, Harryman, Hayton, Gore, Hodgson, Holmes, McKain. Bench: Quarry, Martindale, Wilson, Charters, Gracie.
