APPLEBY'S Dougi Hall/Steve Egglestone were running in second in the fourth round of the British Rally Car Championship before gearbox gemlins hit their Eddie Stobart Motorsport Focus WRC.
It forced them to curb their flat out style and be satisfied with sixth behind four Irish crews, but ahead of Steve Perez, Barry Johnson and Matthew Wilson and Jonny Milner whose car gave up two stages before the end of the 23-stage event.
The eight round series attracts competitors from all around the UK as well as the best in foreign talent.
THE Jim Clark Reivers Rally used only the Sunday mileage of the event and Willie Stobart was using the other WRC for the first time. Despite having to learn how to handle the car after very little time for practice, he and co-driver Andy Richardson completed the nine stages in the same time as Steve Bannister and tied for 13th place.
Bentham's David Wright was not so lucky. Part of the way through the third stage the engine on his Subaru Impreza let go. This means there will be much feverish work going at Grove Hill Garage as the next round of the Kumho Series he is contesting is on July 17.
