ARNSIDE teenager Rob Shepherd destroyed Sedgwick's batting with a remarkable haul of seven wickets for eight runs.
Batting first Arnside could only muster 92 runs against the bowling of Jason Dalzell (3-22), Simon Willacy (3-15) and T. Nicholson (3-8) and when Sedgwick cruised to 51-1 it looked all over.
Shepherd, an 18-yar-old who has come up through the club's junior ranks, had other ideas and sparked a collapse which saw Sedgwick go from 68-5 to 75-8 and all out for 89.
To make it a perfect weekend for Arnside they won through to the semi-finals of the Hackney and Leigh Trophy on Sunday, beating Silverdale by 76 runs.
An opening partnership by Sean Slater (48) and Richard Bagley (39) set them on their way to a total of 214. Ian Bullough was the star of the show, however, top-scoring with 56, then taking 4-16 as Silverdale reached 138-7, A dramatic last ball victory saw Shireshead pick up their first league win at the expense of First Division leaders Westgate.
Batting first Shireshead made 123. Westgate weret 70-3 whenP eter Wilson (40) was caught by Robert Charles on the square leg boundary.
Adam Hornby (3-11) then gave the batsmen a tough time on the unreliable surface. At the other end Carter (4-44) removed a succession of batsmen for single figures. Westgate slipped to 104-9, but an Ian Higson six left only five needed from the last four overs. Two runs runs were needed from the lasat over and after five runless balls Humpage attempted to hit to leg, only to find the hands of Colin Twiname.
It was another Saturday wash-out for Windermere as Burneside's Ellergreen Park fell victim to the heavy rain.
The same forces re-grouped at Queens Park the next day, for a Hackney & Leigh Cup quarter-final. After a brisk stand of 42 between openers Andrew Procter and Joe Stephenson, Andrew Wright dug in to bat for the rest of the innings for 43 not out.
Partners came and went at the other end but a score of 173-8 was respectable in the conditions.
David Batty (30) and Mark Wilson (33) threatened to swing the game towards Burneside, but both eventually fell victim to Nick Lewthwaite who ended with 5-15 as the innings subsided to 130 all out.
Ibis bowlers John Swindlehurst (5-16) and Dave Johnston (5-21) made good use of a green wickert and Bare were all out for 39 in the 26th over.
With the wicket favouring the bowlers Ibis knew that it was going to be difficult to even reach that low total, but their batsman stuck to their task and reached 40 with the loss of 4 wickets in the 23rd over.
Westgate had a better day on Sunday, beating Milnthorpe in the quarteri-finals of the Hackney and Leigh Trophy .
Runs were at a premium on a drying wicket at Westgate and Milnthorpe posted a cautious 128-5. It was not enough as the strong Westgate batting line-up reached the target for the loss of just three wickets.
Milnthorpe continue to climb the table, however, and on Saturday moved into fourth place as a result of a four-wicket win over Silverdale. Mike Wills who collected 7-23 as Silverdale were removed for 75. The visitors made a fight of it, but the home side reach a winning 76 with four wickets to spare.
Phil Bovis scored 103 not out as Warton made a massive 232-2 declared. They were denied outright victory, however, as Heysham hung on for a losing draw on 154-9, M. Smith making 72 not out.
