WALKERS will be crossing the sands of Morecambe Bay for a picnic on Chapel Island on Sunday (August 8) to raise cash for Ulverston's Dickensian Festival.

The gentle cross-sands trip is one of the few to the island, which can only be visited on a limited numbers of days a year because of the tides and weather.

Tickets to take part are £3 per adult and are available from Ulverston shops, including Homestyle and The Ships Wheel Caf. The event was postponed from July 25 because of heavy rain.
