With the game just nine minutes old Ged Smith lofted in Kendal's first corner for Ricky Mercer to head firmly past keeper John Gillies.
They doubled the advantage on 18 minutes when unmarked Peter Smith who fired in from 10 yards.
The visitors were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet when Neil Smith hit the bar.
On the stroke of half time David Foster's long low shot slithered under Gillies into the net for 3-0.
Foster was unlucky in the 52nd minute when he was pulled back by the arm when clear though on goal and Russ McKenna blasted a 35-yard effort just wide.
In The 70th minute during a goalmouth scramble the ball side=footed one yard to Thornley, who promptly dropped on it was yellow carded for handling a back pass.
The resulting indirect free-kick cannoned off he Kendal wall of 11 players.
In the 91st minute Foster made it 4-0 when he lashed a shot into the right hand side of the net.
