10:05pm Saturday 27th August 2005 in Sport By Dennis Aris
Horden CW 1, Kendal Town 2.
Two early strikes by David Foster, who found the net in the third and 12th minutes saw Kendal Town safely negotiate the possible banana skin of and FA Cup preliminary round tie with Horden CW.
Last year the Northern League side, which boasts a number of quality former UniBond League players in its side had a good cup run, but their hope of a repeat performance were dashed by Foster's double. It was not all plain sailing, however as a 39th minute goal by Horden's Ure meant that Town's increasingly strong looking defence had to remain rock solid to prevent an equaliser.
On Monday Town return to the business of the UniBond League First Division and a home match with Warrington Town.
Star man Lee Ashcroft, now free of a three-match suspension incurred at the end of last season, will bd back in the side.
Kick-off at Parkside is at 3pm.
