MINOR Counties comes to Sedbergh this weekend.

Sedbergh School's fine ground, which was a hit with cricketers when used last year, will stage a three-day Minor Counties Championship match from Sunday to Tuesday when Cumberland play Staffordshire. Meanwhile, in the Surridge Northern League, both Netherfield and Kendal are in winning form and tomorrow (Saturday) they travel to Blackpool and Leyland Motors respectively. On Sunday it will be Netherfield's turn to visit Leyland Motors in the first round of the Thwaites First Division Cup, while Kendal entertain Leyland and Farington at their Shap Road ground, starting at 1pm.

Local cricket stages one of the big matches of the early season when joint Westmorland League First Division leaders Windermere and Milnthorpe meet at Queens Park tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 2pm.

The popular Grasmere Gallop, now staged by the British Heart Foundation, will be run on Sunday over seven miles of mixed terrain around the lake. It starts at 10.45am and there is also a three-mile fun run.
