DENT'S hopes of escaping relegation to Division 3 of Kendal and District Table Tennis League have all but evaporated.
They crashed to their tenth defeat of the season against Dallam C.
Dent’s Peter Hawley lost 15-13 in a marathon fifth set to Thomas Parkinson and Steve Hawley went down 11-7 in a final set against James Parkinson.
Dent A’s luck took a more favourable turn when Steve Hawley beat Tom Jackson, but Thomas and James Parkinson’s three wins, in addition to Jackson’s double triumphs helped Dallam record a 9-1 success.
In Division 3, Crook C have forged a 17-point cushion at the top of the table, having played one more game than closest rivals Dallam E following a 30-6 mauling of Natland F.
Glen Allen came closest to tasting victory for Natland, losing out in the deciding set 12-10 to Ted Taylor.
Paul Metsers and Chris Mowat looked more at ease and swept aside the Natland trio with relative ease.
Burton F have climbed to third in the table, 11 points behind Dallam E, despite drawing 20-20 with their G team.
Burton G stunned their F team by snatching a 12-9 advantage at the halfway stage, thanks to Danny Jackson’s breath-taking 11-8 win in the fifth against Lynne Herd, combined with James Burton and Dave Salmon’s victories against Lynne Herd and Matthew Holden respectively.
Burton F looked re-energised moving into the second period, as Daniel Herd completed a hat-trick of victories, in addition to a crucial doubles triumph to secure an entertaining draw.
Dallam F have climbed to sixth place in the table following a tight 18-16 victory against Natland E. Despite Cory Robinson and Alex Shuttleworth’s two victories, Elliot Webster’s three wins helped Dallam earn their sixth win in 16 attempts.
Meanwhile in Division 1, Ibis have increased their lead at the top of the table to three points after a crushing 9-1 success against Crook A.
Second placed Glaxo A are three points behind Ibis, after sneaking past the firm challenge of Burton A 7-3, in a match in which no fewer than five matches went the full distance.
