AARON Asplin took a bronze medal at the North West Junior Open Championships in St. Helens.
Frustratingly, the Kendal Judo Club player had two potential winning throws controversially annulled before his semi-final opponent caught him on the counter-attack to win.
Aslpin won the fight for the bronze in under a minute.
Kendal’s honour was defended by Adam Groom, who trains regularly at the Kendal dojo was in the same weight category as Asplin but drawn in the opposite side of the knockout and met Aaron's semi-final opponent in the final.
He beat him with a half-point throw to win the gold medal.
In the younger age band Calum Clee (38 kilos) lost only to the gold medallist Raheem Beg from Tayside to win a silver.
