N Lancs Football - Sands shoot down Boys Club for final place

BOLTON-le-Sands reached the final of the Holdens Solicitors/Gibson (Division 1) Cup in a penalty shootout with Boys Club on Saturday.

The lead changed hands several times in a fast-flowing semi-final and it was 3-3 at the end of 90 minutes.

Sands' scorers were Dan Shepherd, Antony Lewis and Aaron Topham.

With no further goals in extra time at Willow Lane, the tie went to spot-kicks and visitors Sands edged at 7-6 victory for a final against either Caton United or Millhead on Giant Axe.

Arnside bowed out 2-0 to Caton in the second round with Chris Wright scoring both goals.

Swarthmoor upset the formbook for a semi-final place in the Black Dragon Senior Challenge Cup with a 4-3 win on penalties over third-placed Premier opponents Morecambe Royals.

Moor had goals from Mike Thomsett, Richard Sandham and Graham Wilcox to thank for forcing extra time at 3-3 before the underdogs triumphed from the spot to face Marsh United at home in the last four.

Carnforth Rangers progress in the same cup with a 2-0 win over Slyne-with-Hest with strikes from Vernon Middleton and Mark Plevey.

An own goal settled a close Fisher/Howson Remembrance Cup tie between Divison 1 Cartmel Reserves and Division 2 opponents Carnforth Rangers Reserves., a defender putting the ball into his own net to send Cartmel into a semi-final at Marsh United Reserves.

In the Premier Division, Bentham moved eight points clear of the relegation places with a 5-1 win over fifth-placed Storeys.

Bentham were drawing 1-1 at half time but a change of tactics to lift the ball over the Storeys defence for James Earnshaw to chase paid off. Earnshaw was brought down and Adam Mason converted form the spot for his second goal and Gary Louth added a quick brace, with Earnshaw also on target to virtually end Storeys' title challenge.

Rejuvenanted Cartmel reversed a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Marsh United in a cup match with a 2-0 win as Matthew Burrows and Joel Drinkall netted with goal goals to leave Marsh bottom while they moved up to sixth.

In Division 1 Kirkby Lonsdale beat Ingleton Reserves 2-1 with Jason Roper sealing the points from a free kick three minutes from time after Mike Rendall had scored in the first half.

Tommy Murray scored for Ingleton but they could not add to the tally despute attacking for long periods.

Divison 2 leaders Grange had few problems with a 6-0 victory over bottom club Kirkby Lonsdale Reserves.

Matthew Dean was Grange's man of the match, scoring four times in an unplayable display as Karl Davidson and Cameron McGrath made up the tally.
