Cycling - Moor glory for Jack on seasonal bow

Jack Sadler in action Jack Sadler in action

YOUNG Ulverston racing cyclist Jack Sadler made a stunning start to the new season for Team HerbaLife/Wheelbase with a win in the Darley Moor Youth Road Race on Saturday.

On a cold, wet and windy day in Derbyshire, Sadler faced about 30 of the best youth riders in the country for the first race of the 2011 campaign.

And the 16-year-old Ulverston Victoria High School student showed a cool head once the action was under way as the attacks came fast and furious.

No one was able to get away over the tight circuit and Sadler reasoned it would always come down to a bunched sprint.

With a lap to go he was in third wheel still sitting and waiting and as the tension rose a crash at the far end of the circuit split the field.

Coming down to the last corner the new 3-in-1 youth team managed to get a lead-out train going and just before the corner Sadler moved into second wheel.

For a gruelling finish with rain and crosswinds battering the riders, Sadler knew he had to be first into a chicane with 100 metres to go if he was going to take the win.

He boldly opened up the sprint, flew through the chicane and put ten bike lengths into the chasing rider for a fine victory.
