KENDAL Cricket Club's new professional Jamie Howe played a vital part in assuring New Zealand's passage into the World Cup semi-finals.
After New Zealand has set target of 221-8, Howe came on as substitute fielder for Jesse Ryder, who had top-scored with 83, and he took two important catches.
The first was a diving effort at backward point off man of the match Jacob Oram (4-39) to remove South African skipper Graeme Smith, and then he wound up proceeding when Morne Morkel at long-off off Luke Woodcock.
How's part in his country's World Cup campaign had looked to be on the back burner after two low-key innings in the competition's early stages.
