Third straight win boosts Town's outside chance for play-off spot

KENDAL Town made it three wins on the bounce to keep their slim play off hopes alive with a well deserved 2-1 victory at Cannon Park.

Kendal nearly went behind as early as the fifth minute when a mistimed Rory Winters tackle allowed Beckett to go one on one, only for Tom Newton to make a good save.

Town started to impose themselves on the game though and the impressive Danny Williams caused the Worksop back four all sorts of problems.

And it was his run on 13 minutes that allowed Carl Osman to pick up the loose ball and drive a shot into the bottom corner to put Kendal 1-0 up.

Mark Jackson had the ball in the net three minutes later but the referee disallowed the goal for a push on keeper John Kennedy, much to the disbelief of the Town players.

And Kendal were unlucky not to go in at half time 2-0 up when Osman narrowly headed wide a Williams cross, while a Walmsley shot was just wide.

Worksop started the second half better and Ben Tomlinson went close on 50 minutes but blasted wide from 12 yards.

On 55 minutes Gary McEvatt had a glorious chance to double Town’s lead but Kennedy made two outstanding saves.

McEvatt made a run through the Worksop midfield on 72 minutes and won a free kick from the edge of the box, which Shaun Gray smashed off the crossbar.

Just two minutes later, Town did double their lead when McEvatt was tripped in the box and Walmsley slotted home past Kennedy.

Worksop scored a late consolation through a Tomlinson low drive beyond Newton, but Town deserved their three points as they limited their hosts to the occasional shot on goal.
