THIRTEEN anglers fished the first round of the KDAC/WADAA summer league on Sunday at Whinns Pond Penrith in bright summery weather.
Unfortunately the big fish failed to show and catches were in the main limited to small roach and skimmers, although the winning bag included a nice tench of 4lb which was the only fish of any size.
Neil Yates was first with 11lbs 3oz, second was Chris Morrison with 7lb 5oz and Grahame Hall 3rd with 6lb 2oz.
Winning tactics were single maggot over micro pellet fished on a short pole, which also accounted for the tench.
The next match is at Ratherheath on May 8.
UNDERLEY estate hosts lucky fly fishers trying out new state of the art rods worth up to £1,500 at a special event on the River Lune on Sunday, May 15.
Professional casting demonstrations and lesson will be held on the Underley Park Bridge from renowned experts such as Ian Gorden and Andy Murray. The idea is an informal day to try out the latest carbon-fibre technlogy, including NRX rods from Loomis and the Sintrix range from Hardy's.
There are a few places left for fly fishers to attend - contact Stephen J Fawcett, Gunsmiths and Fishing Tackle, on 01524 272669 as admission must be booked in advance.
