KENDAL player-coach Ian Voortman offers his weekly view after the 42-26 win over Harrogate.
I DON’T care how many times one pulls on the Black and Amber jersey at Mint Bridge, you could never grow tired of being a part of days like Saturday.
Our performance was by no means perfect, but there was enough to suggest that, if this teams stays together, next season won’t be spent in a basement battle.
The impact that guys like Dan Lowther, Lucian Morosan and the Barrow Boys have made this season is astounding if one takes into consideration the step up that they have had to make to play at this level.
Not only have they been thrown in at the deep end, at times they have been asked to play out of position, or sit on the bench for a full 80 minutes.
If we do avoid relegation this year, the role that they have played in replacing more experienced players will be the main reason.
Leicester Lions this weekend, give us the opportunity to exorcise the demons of one of the darkest days in Kendal’s recent past - the 100-point drubbing we suffered down there 12 months ago.
As a coaching team we have to make the players understand what a challenge The Lions, fighting hard for that second place that brings a promotion play-off match, will present.
More importantly we need to be sure that the whole squad believes that if we play to our potential we will achieve our biggest win of the season thus far.
