NORTHERN League legend Terry Hunte put a marker down on the opening day of the league's 60th anniversary season with an innings of 91 for Kendal.
Hunte and Kendal's substitute professonal Werner Coetsee put on 147 in a third-wicket stand as they posted a competitive 205 for six total.
Coetsee, who will play for Enfield in the Lancashire League, hit 68 and did a first-class job replacing New Zealander Jamie How, whose arrival has been delayed.
Hunte's 91 came off 104 balls and he hit five fours and three sixes.
Their efforts ensured that Morecambe Pakistan A team fast bowler Anwar Ali had a tough introduction for his new team.
When Morecambe batted, they made 180 for 8, 26 runs short of the target with two wickets in hand to draw the match.
Batting at five, Anwar Ali hit 60 off 76 balls batting at number five and Josh Dixon, a recruit from Westmorland League Heysham, made 39 off 92 balls coming in at first wicket down.
Stu Parkin, skipper Chris Miller and Coetsee each took two wickets for Kendal.
A hitch has prevented Netherfield pro Brady Barends for making the first fixture but he is expected next week.
Lancashire CC staffman Andrea Agathagelou took over for the trip to Barrow, who also have a South African pro in Pieter Malan.
Barrow are looking for a steady supply of runs from him as they have lost openers Jonathan Miles and Greg Platten over the winter months.
Malan hit the season's first century, 103 off 137 balls with six fours and four sixes, out of Barrow's 177 for 8 at Ernest Pass.
Lakmal Mendis (28) supported Malan in a stand of 76 for the seventh wicket with Marc Hadwin taking three for 46.
Netherfield lost Cumberland opener Marc Brown to a first-ball duck on debut, leg before to county colleague Graham Dawson.
Daryl Wearing trapped Agathagelou leg before for five and it took Ben Haddrick's battling 50 off 108 balls to help them earn the draw.
John Mason hit 37 on debut to steer Netherfield to 146 for 8 at the close, Malan completing a fine all-round match with three for 38 and vice-captain Liam Livingstone taking three for 15.
