Orienteering - Lakeland juniors are class acts for England

LAKELAND juniors helped England to win the annual Interland match against teams from Belgium, the Netherlands, NW Germany and NE France.

Lois Jefferson was second in the W14 class over a 3.2km course and Natalie Beadle was third in the W17 class, just 12 seconds ahead of Barrow’s Sarah Jones in fourth place over their 5.4km course.

Lakeland’s Adam Bartlett and Carl Edmonds were travelling reserves to the match at Lübbecke in Germany and had non-counting runs over the courses. However, Adam’s time was good enough to have placed him second in the M14 class.

Lakeland’s Carl Edmonds (M18) won at a regional event around the Timble Ings plantation near Harrogate.

He topped the 7km short brown course, while other Lakeland results included Richard Wilson (M55) was fourth on the 8.6km brown; Jackie Chapman (W50) and Anne Wilson (W55) seventh and 24th on the 5.1km short blue and John Pullin (M60) 18th on the 4km green.

On the less technical courses, Lois Jefferson (W14) was third on the 3.1km light green and Thomas Edmonds (M12) 11th on the 2.5km orange.

A few hardy souls travelled to Sussex for the 2011 British Middle Distance Championships in Worthlodge Forest near Crawley .

Adam Bartlett and Diane McClure were the pick of the LOC crop with 2nd in M14 and 3rd in W60 respectively.

Other creditable performances came from Carl Edmonds 4th M18, Natalie Beadle 4th W16 and Beryl Offley and Elizabeth Hindle 5th and 6th W55.
