Cricket - Hadwin spins Netherfield to victory

NETHERFIELD leg-spinner Marc Hadwin claimed 6-76 to engineer his side's 22-run victory over Preston at Parkside Road on Saturday.

Netherfield were still without South African pro Brady Barends, who it is now hoped with arrive in time for the May Day Bank Holiday weekend fixtures.

Rochdale's South African professional Dieter Klein stepped in as substitute professional and he hit 42 off 46 balls, while skipper Chris Parry made 49 off 48 balls to enable Netherfield to make 186 for 7.

Preston professional Saeed Bariwala took four for 64 with his off-spin.

The match remained in the balance until Hadwin began to turn it to the hosts with his six wickets and quick bowler Stuart Nixon captured 4-49 to wrap it up.

In the end Preston were dismissed for 164, lacking a major innings with their main contributions from Mohsin Modhi made 39, Bariwala 32 and Sajid Nalbandh 39.

KENDAL faced the M6 traffic to head to Blackpool and both sides are still awaiting their engaged professionals to arrive.

Blackpool obtained the services Rishton pro Cameron Delport, a highly-rated South African batsman while Kendal had the services of Littleborough's prolific scoring Australian batsman Clinton Perrin.

Delport won the battle of the sub-professionals, having Delport caught behind by Rob Sissons for 20 as Kendal slumped to 97 for 7.

Mike Tidmas and Stephen Twist, on his Blackpool debut each took two wickets. Chris Marshall and Nick Lewthwaite then put on an undefeated stand of 73 for the eighth wicket to lead Kendal to a respectable 170 for 7, Lewthwaite finishing 45 not out.

John Mounsey then provided the backbone of Blackpool's reply, batting through the innings for an undefeated 56 off 109 balls as the home side won by six wickets.

Twist made 48 off 72 balls and Delport hit a classy 56 off only 39 balls with eight fours and three sixes.
