AMBLESIDE runners had a strong showing at the Coledale Horseshoe in Braithwaite last weekend with Alan Bowness finishing in the top 4, just 90 seconds behind eventual winner, Ian Holmes of Bingley.
Bowness led home a trio of Ambleside representatives around the nine mile route, with Tom Gibbs sixth and Ben Abdelnoor seventh.
There were also good runs from Hugh O’Donnell (24th) and Dan Duxbury (25th) in the 300+ field, while organiser Mike Robinson from Kendal finished 21st in his run for Dark Peak.
Lou Roberts from Kendal was the first woman to round the course in 1.32.52 as she finished 84th overall, two minutes clear of Dark Peak’s Nicky Spinks.
And there was more joy for Ambleside at Newlands on Saturday when the team finished third in the Second Teenager with Altitude event as Tom Gibbs placed third behind Borrowdale’s Simon Booth.
The 15th Anniversary Waltz was won by Borrowdale’s Ben Bardsley with Howgill Harrier Carl Bell coming second, just two minutes behind.
And in the women’s race, Ambleside’s Hazel Robinson was second behind Border Harrier Clare McKeown.
