UP to 1,400 cyclists will be in the Lake District on Sunday, to tackle the tenth Fred Whitton Challenge.
Based at Coniston Sports Centre, the challenge follows an 112-mile anti-clockwise route, taking in the stiff climbs of the high Lakeland passes.Riders will start individually from Coniston between 6-9am.
Riders will be on the following route at these approximate times: Ambleside 6.30-9.30am; Kirkstone Pass 7-10 am; Keswick 8-11 am; Honister Pass 9-12 noon; Newlands Pass 10-1 pm; Whinlatter Pass 10-1 pm; Loweswater 11-2 pm; Cold Fell 11-2 pm; Gosforth 12– 4 pm; Hard Knott Pass 1–5pm; Wrynose Pass 1– 6pm; Little Langdale 1- 6 pm; Coniston 1– 7 pm.
The route will be marshalled and signposted, with warning signs for riders and motorists.
