GLAXO B triumphed over Dallam B in the Kendal and District League’s Knockout Cup final.
It caps a successful season for the Ulverston-based Glaxo club after their A team were crowned Division 1 champions.
Although forced to concede a big handicap start, Division 1 Glaxo drew first blood as Keith Mallinson clawed back a four-point handicap deficit to beat Tom Carling 11-8, 16-14, 11-9.
Lawrence Duncan levelled the encounter for the Division 2 side at 1-1, taking full advantage of his six-point handicap advantage to defeat Callum Dymond 11-5, 11-4, 11-8.
Glaxo gained an edge in the third and fourth singles when Dymond beat Carling 7-12, 13-11, 12-9, 12-7 and Mallinson swept aside Joe Alaimo 11-8, 11-6, 11-7, for a 3-1 match lead.
Just as Dallam looked to be collapsing, Duncan scored an 11-7, 11-4, 11-6 success against Glaxo’s Tony Whitehouse Dymond then edged a a fifth-set duel with 12-10, 12-9, 1-12, 10-12, 12-9, after the Dallam player had fought back from a 2-0 sets deficit.
At 4-2 to the good and only requiring one further victory, Whitehouse overturned a five-point handicap deficit in each set to defeat Carling 11-7, 11-9, 11-6, securing a 5-2 win for Glaxo B..
