WETHERIGGS United wrapped up the First Division title in the Bluefin Westmorland Football League with a 2-1 away win at Staveley United on Saturday.
Staveley took the lead five minutes into the second half, but goals from Grant Davidson and Martin Coleman earned Wetheriggs the three points they needed to seal the title.
Kirkoswald will finish runners-up ahead of Keswick, but Burneside’s 1-0 defeat at Appleby, courtesy of John Coward’s goal, condemned them to Second Division football for next season, along with Shap.
Kendal United need a point against Ibis tonight (Thursday) to go up as champions, with Lunesdale United poised for promotion by finishing third as Wetheriggs Reserves are ruled out of stepping up.
United won 7-0 at Penrith Rangers Reserves on Saturday with goals from Danny Postlethwaite (2), Graeme Archer (2), Kevin Atherton (2) and Greg Pearce.
Elsewhere Ambleside United Reserves need three points from three games to clinch promotion to the Second Division, with Langwathby United set to join them, as Burneside Reserves cannot be promoted.
