OPENING bowlers Stuart Nixon and Nathan Chambers got Netherfield off to a great start as they reduced Carnforht to 1 for 3 in a rain-reduced 30-overs match.
Carnforth, who had a 64-year-old substitute professional in prolific wicket-taker Mel Whittle, ex-Oldham in the CLL, playing for them, were dimissed for 103.
Netherfield were still without their pro Brady Barends, who has not sorted out his visa problem and decided not to play a deputy, but Nixon captured 6-63 and Chambers 4-40 as only Tom Barnfield, with 35 off 51 balls, and Phil Thornton, 29, showed any resistance.
Whittle struck to remove Ben Haddrick for 22, but Cumberland team-mates Alex Atkinson (52no) and Marc Brown (32no) went for the kill, with some very brisk strokeplay to seal a nine-wicket win.
