AFTER the balmy weather of April, riders in Sunday's Lancaster CC 50 miles time trial at Cockermouth came back to eartjh with a bump in the cold, wet and windy conditions.
A third of the field either did not start or did not finish yet Preston CC's Julian Markham made a mockery of the day with a winning time of 1hr 53mins 40secs. Everyone else struggled, particularly into the wind on the six-mile ascent of Embleton Bank, which had to be tackled. Kent Valley's Andrew Barlow clocked 2-6-20 and Richard Belk a painful 2-20-54.
David Baxter won both of Kent Valley's weekday club events, taking the 'Jungle' hilly 12 miles from Mint Bridge in 30-19 and then the Milnthorpe 10 in 22-53. Other leading times in the hilly were: Jonny Knox (J) 31-12; Andrew Barlow 32-36; James Knox (J) 34-38; Ian Jackson 34-38; and Richard Belk 37-00.
Leading local times at Milnthorpe were: Jonny Knox 23-43; Andew Barlow 24-02; Luke Osborne 24-13; Steve Hodgson 24-28; and Chris Dixon 24-32.
