BURNESIDE Open Seniors Mixed Pairs, sponsored by Stately Kitchens, was won by Bill and Laraine Keating (Lindale) on Friday. They beat Mavis Anderton (Levens) and Eric Atkinson (Victoria) in the final 21-8.
The beaten semi-finalists were Alan Swindlehurst and partner (Warton), who lost 21-18 to Anderton and Atkinson and Mal and Joyce Barker (Netherfield), who lost 21-8 to the eventual winners.
DAVID Robinson & Martin Wilson (Crosthwaite) beat Violet Dennison(Levens) and Paul Dennison (Warton) 21-11 in the final of Levens Open Pairs, sponsored by P.V.Dobsons Motors Ltd.
The beaten semi-finalists were Keith McMath and Colin Wilson (KA Hale), who lost to the Dennisons, and David Medcalf and Linda Valentine (Levens), who went out to the eventual winners.
LEVENS A remain at the top of Division 1 of the Rothay League, followed by Bowness A and Staveley A. The Coniston A side appears to have set it’s stall in order, and are moving up the table after a strong away performance against struggling Levens B.
In Division 2, Ambleside A came unstuck , losing a close-fought match 7-3 away to Staveley B, but remain eigth points clear at the top of the table above Lindale who shared the points with the Ambleside B team. Allithwaite A moved into third after a convincing away win against Leven Valley A.

Holme BC’s Steve and Mark Ashburn took the man of the match awards in South Lajkes County Park team’s 20-12 win over Bolton in National Division 5 of the NFCGB competition. Steve took the award in a 12-game whitewash in the home leg, while Mark won the award in the away leg, in which South Lakes’ two winners were Mick Simpson (Netherfield) and David Brown junior (Lune Road).
The next league game is against Swadlincote on Sunday.
