CUMBRIA kept their hopes of a return to Twickenham on May 29 alive when they reached the semi-finals of the County Championship Shield with a 32-10 victory over Notts, Lincs and Derby at Penrith.
The success gives the side home advantage in the last four and a visit of Surrey to Aspatria on Saturday, May 21.
“It was an excellent win,” said Team Manager Kevin Johnston.
“We did everything right this week. In our last game we were a bit slow getting going, but this week we set off at a much better pace and played well throughout.”
Seventeen-year-old Wigton full-back Alistair Ledingham contributed 12 points to a 32-10 victory over Notts Lincs and Derbyshire, scoring a try, two conversions and a penalty at Penrith.
Workington centre Martin Armstrong, Wigton lock Matthew Atkinson together with Penrith's Gavin Cartmell and flanker Mike Stephens also crossed for tries, with Ledingham adding one conversion.
It was Cumbria's second win in the Shield, having beaten Staffordshire in the opening match 48-17.
