Cricket - Rain spares Kendal as run charge is washed out

THE WEATHER vane swung in Kendal's favour at Chorley after they were restricted to 171-9 at Windsor Park.

Terry Hunte top-scored with 58 off 78 balls, inclouding five fours and three sixes, while opener Jon Mile made 32.

Chorley pro Gaurav Dhar took 5-71 off 18 overs and Kieran McCullagh 3-20 which included the prize wicket of Kiwi international Jamie How, caught by Jack Catterall for 14.

Chorley were 15 runs away from their target with four wickets in hand when rain washed out four crucial overs and they closed seven runs adrift of victory on 165-6.

Captain Andy Holdsworth made 44 off 84 balls, Jack Bentham 37 with pro Dhar unbeaten on 32.

Netherfield's top of the table match against St Annes at Parkside was also wrecked by the rain.

Still without professional, Brady Barends, they turned to yet another sub-pro in Pakistani Waqas Satti who fell to St Annes pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi for a first-ball duck.

Netherfield reached 130-7 after 44.1 overs when the rain came and the match was abandoned.

Cumberland County batsman Marc Brown made 44 off 112 balls opening the innings and John Mason hit 39 off 51 balls with Hettiarachchi returning 3-52 from 22 overs.
