RIDERS in Sunday's Border City Wheelers 50 mile time trial had a repeat of the previous week's struggle into the wind on the open stretches of A66 at Cockermouth.
Royal Navy and Royal Marines strongman Sean Childs was clearly best equipped to deal with gusts of up to 50mph plus heavy rain showers and won by more than seven minutes in a staggering 1hr 50mins 12secs.
Fastest local rider was Duncan Orme, of Lancaster's Vanilla Bikes.com, in 2-4-43 ahead of Yealands' Phil Shaw (Lancaster CC) in 2-6-11 and Kent Valley's Tim Bennett on 2-8-47.
A strong westerly wind also plagued progress in the latest Kent Valley midweek 10, even on the usually speedy Levens course. Junior Sam Huddleston won in 21-38 from David Baxter on 21-54 and Cleveleys RC's Mike Smith, who rode 21-56.
Other leading local times were: Dave Chell (LCC) 22-29; Lynn Hamel 23-12; Andrew Barlow 23-13; Chris Dixon 23-17; and Steve Hodgson 23-22.
