NERTHERFIELD had the luck of the toss partly to thank after their game with Darwen at Parkside Road was interrupted by rain.
After a late start and further interruptions the game was reduced to 31 overs, Darwen making 145/6 after being inserted. Alex Davies hit 40 off 44 balls with Netherfield sub-pro Ashar Zaidi, professional for Accrington in the Lancashire League taking 4/47.
Netherfield reached their target with 15 balls to spare for the loss of four wickets, Zaidi (31), Marc Brown (36), John Mason (34 not out) and John Huck (20 not out) the major contributors.
Defending Champions Leyland (67pts) romped to a nine wickets win at Kendal after bowling out the home side for 127. Skipper David Makinson took 5/44 off 16.4 overs with Peter Cummings taking 3/36. Jon Miles top-scored for Kendal with 33 but Kiwi international pro Jamie How was caught by Chris Parkinson off Leyland pro Brett Pelser for 7.
Parkinson fell off his first ball to Stu Parkin but Luis Reece (50 not out off 52 balls including four fours and two sixes) and Adam Coates (78 not out) hurried Leyland to victory.
Wicketkeeper Coates, a close season recruit from Westhoughton CC hit eight fours and four sixes and faced just 72 balls, ending the match in the grand manner with a six to complete an unbroken stand of 129.
